KROGEL,
Gladys E.
(Age 91)

Gladys Eleanor Krogel died
at Avalon Care Center on
Monday, November 16, 2009.
She was born at home April 21, 1918, to John and Annie Johnson. A sister, Violet Irene joined her four years later. Gladys grew up in Spokane,
WA. She attended Longfellow Grade School and graduated from John Rogers High School in 1936. She always enjoyed clerical subjects and enrolled at Kinman Business College where she earned the IDY (I Dare You to Be Better than the Rest) pin when she graduated. Her first job was at Western Pine Mfg. Co. where she worked for many years in the office. When the company was sold she continued to work for the new owner, Boise Cascade, until they moved from our area. She remained attached to the lumber industry all her working years. Her last position was at Northwest Lumber Sales where she retired in 1980. Gladys met her future husband on the dance floor at the German Hall. On April 4, 1940, she married Walter Krogel. In the years following she gave birth to one daughter, Nancy, and ten years later to one son, Gerald. As a child Gladys loved to play with dolls and make small houses out of boxes which she would decorate. In her adult years she sewed many clothes for her young daughter. She also did embroidery, needlepoint, counted cross stitch and some machine quilting. She was a member of Happy Snip and Stitch Sewing Club since the 50s. In their retirement Gladys and her husband purchased a camper and enjoyed camping trips in the Northwest. They also enjoyed traveling on escorted tours in Canada, Europe and the U.S. Her husband, Walter, died September 21, 1997. Gladys is survived by her daughter, Nancy Schutz; her son Gerald Krogel and wife Diane; her granddaughters Erin Krogel and Alison Krogel and husband, Gustavo, and her grandson, Justin Schutz. In addition, she is also survived by her sister, Violet Bauer, and brother-in-law, Claude Bauer (Pocatello, ID) as well as nieces Judy Davis, Beth Sexton, Diane Branson, Claudia Stoker, and Lois Stone and nephews, Gary Branson, Roger and Clifford Meyers and Robert Krogel. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 20th, 1pm at Heritage.
