- Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away on Thursday, October 29th, 2009. Guy was born on April 15th, 1935 in Borger, TX to Robert and Thelma Smith. Guy enlisted in the United States Army on April 16th, 1953 where he served his country as a paratrooper during the Korean War. On June 28th, 1957 he married the love of his life, Gail Ann Sauer of Ritzville, WA. Guy was a proud member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters, Local 44 in Spokane, WA where he served for over 48 years. He was an expert pipewelder and enjoyed working on natural gas pipelines and industrial projects. He was from the generation where you make do with what you have, and Guy could design and build almost anything. He lovedsilver fishing, hunting, and the outdoors in general as long as he wasspending time with his lifetime of family and friends. Guy was a wonderful man with a truly kind soul. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Smith in 1935, paternal grandparents Lorenzo and Molly Smith (who raised Guy), maternal grandparents Guy and Mary Thomas, mother and stepfather Thelma and Foye Johnson, half-brothers Gene and Chat Johnson, niece Yvette Pugh, and nephew Joel Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gail Ann; sons Scott B. (Cathy) Smith of Nine Mile Falls, WA and Steve Smith of Spokane, WA; his grandsons Guy M. Smith and Kahel Smith; granddaughter Tiffany Becker; step grandchildren Mark Kelly, Rick Kelly, Nicholas Kelly,Lisa Glaspey, and Chandra Kelly; seven great-grandchildren; his sister Molly Ann Durham; his cousin Helen Morgan; and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews. Guy was greatly loved and will be sorely missed. Visitation for Guy will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at HAZEN AND JAEGER VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 1306 N. PINES RD, SPOKANE VALLEY, WA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Ritzville Memorial Cemetery, just off of Rosenoff Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Union Gospel Mission, 1224 E. Trent, Spokane, WA 99202 or the Humane Society, 6607 N. Havana, Spokane, WA 99207.
