WEATHERFORD,
Harold D.

Passed away on October 24th, 2009 at Valley Medical Center, he joined his wife Carol in heaven. A long time valley resident Harold was born on September 5th, 1927 to Everett and Madge Weatherford in West Plains, Missouri. Harold joined the Army in May of 1947 and
started his life's adventure. In 1950 while stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA, he met and married Carol Kirchmeier. Together they traveled the United States and Europe. Harold was a member of the Army Engineers Battalion. During his career he earned many medals and commendations. He received the Oak Leaf Cluster for meritorious service, letters of commendation, Army commendation medals, Korean War Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He retired in June 1967. The next six years were spent working for the Washington State Parks, as assistant ranger on Mt. Spokane and ranger at Lake Sylvia and Moses Lake. During those years he again received letters of commendation. In 1973 he came back to Spokane and worked at Opportunity Presbyterian Church, Comminco and helped set up the former Holiday Hills.
Harold's hobbies were fishing and hunting and was an unactive member of the Spokane Valley Lions Club. He served as president from 1978-1979.
He is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Robert) Hillhouse and Janet (Steve) Schneider both of Spokane Valley. Grandchildren, Toni (David) Hillhouse, Georgia, Erik (Jennifer) Hillhouse, Spokane, Vicki (Charlie) Miller, Walla Walla, Jacob, (Marisa) Schneider, Spokane Valley. Great-grandchildren, Courtney, Holly, Hailey, Kassie, Zachary, J'Lee, Cash and Eva. A sister Ella Mae (Leland) Stephan and two nieces and families, Missouri.
A memorial service will be held November 5, 2009 at 11:00 am at Valley Assembly of God Church 15618 E. Broadway, Spokane Valley.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Honor Flight, any veterans group or the charity of your choice.
